Olivia, still at school, plans to stay there 18 months more and to matriculate before going into show business.

The Sing, Sing, Sing quest switched singing styles for her.

Up to her audition for the show, she had been strumming a guitar around Melbourne coffee houses for a year as a budding folk singer.

O’Keefe and Kevin Ryder decided she: was better suited to show songs, so talked her into doing a number recorded by: Judy Garland’s daughter, Liza Minelli, “What Do You Think I am?”

Two weeks later, judges picked her as one of the Sitmar finalists.

When she gets around to taking up her prize, the trip to England will be a sentimental journey for Olivia.

She migrated from England 10 years ago with her parents (her father is a university professor), and at one time had thoughts of enrolling at the London School of Dramatic Art.

Her sister, Rona Newton-John, was named Model-of-the-Year in 1960, and had leading roles in “The Reluctant Debutante” and “Dear Delinquent.“
