WASHINGTON—The Home is ready to vote Friday on whether or not to expel embattled Rep. George Santos over allegations the New York Republican stole cash from his personal marketing campaign and dedicated different misdeeds, in what could be solely the third expulsion from the chamber because the Civil Warfare.
The end result remained unpredictable. A two-thirds Home supermajority is required to take away a member, which means that 290 votes could be wanted to oust Santos if all 435 Home members vote. Most Democrats are anticipated to again expulsion, leaving Santos’s hopes within the palms of his GOP colleagues. Whereas many Republicans assist the transfer to take away Santos, some—together with Speaker Mike Johnson (R., La.)— have expressed reservations about expelling him earlier than his felony case has been resolved.
