We’re less than two months away from the release of Mortal Kombat 1, but there’s still a lot to be seen about who and what will be included in the game.
During DreamCon 2023, NetherRealm Studios revealed Geras as the latest playable character for MK1 in a new trailer.
Back for his sophomore outing after debuting in Mortal Kombat 11, Geras sports a slightly cool new skin, though he’s definitely still a master of the sands of time.
We’re treated to some of his old staples, like kicking opponents through built up walls, and now he’ll apparently knock them down as well and throw them at you.
They also show some extended time stop powers, and one of their casts has another version of Geras’s attack from above before the original one wears off.
Though the duo were on opposite sides of the conflict in MK11, Liu Kang and Geras are now apparently on the “same team” as defenders of the hourglass after the fire god took control of time last game.
Interestingly, Geras is the only other character in MK1’s lore we’ve seen so far who acknowledges the previous timeline, which isn’t all that surprising considering the guy lives outside of his natural laws.
It sounds as though he may not be entirely on board with how much fate Liu Kang has messed with for the new age, or Geras already knows it’s not going to work out the way the fire god expects it to. .
The trailer ends with a couple of new Fatalities with Geras smashing Baraka into a sandstorm while Liu Kang takes Sub-Zero into space to be ripped apart by what appears to be a black hole.
Unfortunately, there are no new Kameos introduced in the trailer, but we do get to see a few more of the classic Sektor and Darrius helping out in the action.
Earlier this month, NRS revealed Li Mei, Tanya and Baraka are back on the MK1 starting roster too, and apparently they also presumed some extra scenes from story mode with Reiko and Motaro behind closed doors.
Mortal Kombat 1 is scheduled to launch on September 19 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, and PC with a reserve beta test arriving on August 18 of next month.
