Gina Carano calls out “Mandalorian” star Pedro Pascal for sharing Ted Cruz’s number

Gina Carano, the actress fired in February from Disney‘s Star Wars franchise series The Mandalorian over social media posts seen as anti-Semitic and transphobic, said that she thought a social media post from her former co-star Pedro Pascal was not “okay.” Pascal’s tweet posted the office phone number of Republican Texas Senator Ted Cruz.

“I adore Pedro. I adore him,” Carano said in an interview with conservative commentator Ben Shapiro posted online on February 21, 2021. “I know he’s said and done some hurtful things. I don’t think that posting anybody’s number on social media, is okay.”

Carano was referring to Pascal’s January 9, 2021 tweet in which he posted Cruz’s office phone number. In the tweet, he encouraged his followers to share their thoughts with the senator, presumably because of Cruz’s January 6 congressional votes against certifying the 2020 election victory of then-President-elect Joe Biden.

The New York Daily News, the Canadian edition of Entertainment Tonight and numerous social media commenters accused Pascal of “doxxing” Cruz. Doxxing refers to publicly publishing a person’s private information to incite harassment or harm against them.

However, since Cruz’s phone number was already publicly available on his government website, Pascal’s actions didn’t fit the literal definition of “doxxing.” Regardless, some accused Pascal of trying to incite harassment against Cruz for his politics.

Later in her interview with Shapiro, Carano said that despite her political differences with Pascal, she and Pascal both agreed to see each other as fellow humans and friends foremost, rather than political opponents.

Days after her firing, Carano announced that she had a new project in the works with Shapiro and his conservative-leaning website The Daily Wire—developing, producing and starring in her own film.

Carano was fired from The Mandalorian after she shared a post on social media that compared being a Republican today to Jewish people being targeted by Nazis during the Holocaust.

Critics of her firing pointed out that in 2018, Pascal issued a tweet comparing Jewish prisoners in Nazi concentration camps to immigrant children detained behind bars at the U.S. southern border. While Carano was fired for her deleted post, Pascal’s job and post are still active.

“[Disney has] been all over me and they’ve been watching me like a hawk, and I’m watching people on the same production and they can say everything they want, and that’s where I had a problem,” Carano told Shapiro, talking about the monitoring of her social media during her time acting on The Mandalorian. “I had a problem because I wasn’t going along with the narrative.”
