A second man in connection with the murder of a teenage girl who went missing almost 30 years ago has been arrested. Donna Keogh disappeared in 1998 after visiting a home in Middlesbrough, North Yorkshire. The then 17-year-old girl was last seen on April 28 and was known by cops to have travelled to Leeds over the course of the year. The teenager’s body has never been found, and it is suspected she was killed after going missing.
In March, Cleveland Police confirmed a 64-year-old man had been arrested on suspicion of murder – the first update on the cold case in years. And the force has since arrested another man, aged 62, also on suspicion of Donna’s murder. The suspect, who was detained in the Manchester area, is now set to be interviewed by officers in connection with the case. The 64-year-old suspect is still being held in police custody while enquiries continue.
Deputy Senior Investigating Officer, Detective Inspector Evan Kirtley said: “We have made a second arrest in connection with the murder of Donna Keogh.
“The man remains in police custody where he will be interviewed.
“We remain in close contact with Donna’s family and they are being kept fully updated.
“Donna’s family have lived with unbearable uncertainty for nearly 30 years as they need answers as to what happened to Donna.
“Somebody out there knows what happened and could tell us, in order to give the family some comfort and peace, after all this time.
“If you have information, please tell us. You can contact us directly or report anonymously.”
A month after Donna disappeared, she was officially reported missing, despite a friend having reassured her that the house she went to was “safe”.
Four men are believed to have been at the property on the day the 17-year-old was there.
In March 1999, detectives launched their first murder investigation after arresting two men on suspicion of murder.
Although the inquiry continued for a considerable period, no charges have ever been brought over Donna’s murder.
