Google Pixel Fold is destroyed by bend test, it doesn’t like the heat either

He pixel fold it’s Google’s first foldable smartphone, and it’s slowly starting to land in people’s hands now, though if you order one today from the Google Store in the US, you’ll have to wait a month for it to arrive. It sounds like the company was very conservative with its sales estimates and therefore didn’t really make many of these.

Regardless, the Pixel Fold is the latest device to go through the grueling “durability tests” that Zack of JerryRigEverything The YouTube channel has accustomed us. Only a few board-style phones have failed their tests in recent years, but this one is special because, you know, is folded. If you’re wondering how it went, grab some popcorn and hit play below.

If for some reason you couldn’t watch, we’ll give you the nitty-gritty. The outer screen, of course, is covered by glass, so it scratches at level 6 on the Mohs hardness scales as usual, with deeper gouges appearing at level 7. The folding inner screen has a protective plastic screen on top of ultra-thin glass. and this verges on level 2, with deeper grooves appearing at level 3.

The sides of the phone are made of metal, as is the SIM card tray, and the hinge is polished steel, as is the camera bump or ‘visor’. The outer screen lasted around 15 seconds when subjected to an open flame, while the flip screen gave up after eight seconds, oddly enough turning the phone off in the process.

After that, the phone didn’t turn on again for a minute, and when it did, it gave a warning that it had automatically turned off due to excessive heat. Funny, in a way. Although the Pixel Fold isn’t rated for dust resistance, it does hold up to dust exposure quite well.

Finally, the bending test. When folded while unfolded, the Pixel Fold destroys most of its interior screen by folding in the wrong direction. Then it can’t be closed again. Interestingly, it’s not the hinge that fails, but the antenna lines that are the vulnerable points.
