WASHINGTON (TND) — Rep. Jim Banks, R-Ind., on Tuesday shared footage of American soldiers “under fire” in the Middle East, which he says disproves recent claims by Vice President Kamala Harris about the status of U.S. troops.
Harris during the presidential debate last week claimed the Biden administration does not currently have U.S. troops in combat zones anywhere in the world. She used this as an appeal to service members who questioned her connection to the disastrous withdrawal from Afghanistan.
As of today, there is not one member of the United States military who is on active duty in a combat zone in any war zone around the world, the first time this century,” Harris said during the debate.
Rep. Banks, however, claimed Tuesday to have evidence to the contrary.
“BREAKING: My office just obtained footage of US troops under fire in the Middle East,” he wrote via X. “These attacks occurred within the last couple of weeks/months. Reminder, Kamala Harris lied to the entire world last week when she said that we currently have no active duty troops deployed in war zones! Unfit to lead!”
Reacting to the clip was Donald Trump Jr., who said “Kamala Harris should be ashamed of herself!!!”
The mother of a soldier killed in the Afghanistan withdrawal told The National Desk (TND) last month she felt slighted by Harris’s absence from the 2021 dignified transfer of her son’s body at Dover Air Force Base.
“That’s a person I don’t even have any respect for,” she said of Harris. “She wasn’t there.”
The mother claimed to TND the White House later ignored an invitation for a second meeting.
“If the vice president wants to say ‘he does not want to meet you guys, but I will,’ why didn’t she do that?” the mother asked. “They know that she’s another joke.”
