GOP Senator Surprises CNN’s Kaitlan Collins With ‘Pretty Stark’ Gun Admission

Sen. Mike Rounds (RS.D.) surprised CNN host Kaitlan Collins with her assessment that Congress has gone “as far as we’re going to go” on gun control.

On Wednesday’s “CNN This Morning” show, Collins asked Rounds if there would be any legislative action following the latest mass shooting at a school in Nashville, Tennessee, that killed three children and three adults.

“There is no one here (in Congress) who, if they could find the right approach, would not try to do something because they feel that pain,” Rounds responded.

“And yet, when we start talking about Second Amendment bans or challenges, I think the things that have already been done have gotten as far as we go with gun control,” the senator added.

Instead, Rounds suggested that money allocated to install solar panels in schools could be diverted to increase safety.

“It’s pretty harsh to hear him say that he doesn’t think there’s anything else Congress can do legislatively when it comes to guns,” Collins responded.

Rounds said he stood by his vote against the gun safety legislation that was passed and signed into law last year.

“I’m not ready to start talking about implementing more things when we know right now that we could make schools safer than they are today, if they had the resources to do it,” he added.
