Nationals Senator Matt Canavan says government intervention in Australia’s energy market has created a situation where the power grid needs to be “micromanaged†just to keep the lights on.
It comes after the Australian Energy Council issued a warning over the increasing need for intervention to protect the security of the nation’s power grid.
“The reason we’ve got lots of government intervention … On a daily basis almost, our regulators have to fine tune things just to keep the lights on, the reason that’s the case is because the government intervened a couple of decades ago to encourage renewable energy,†Mr Canavan told Sky News host Cory Bernardi.
