Govt to introduce single national curriculum across country: FME

Federal Minister for Education (FME), Shafqat Mehmood on Sunday, acknowledged the decision of the government to introduce a single national curriculum for education systems all across the country.

While answering a question on government’s negligence in terms of controlling the foreign education acquired by privileged population of country while local students of Madressahs and government schools remained uncompetitive at the expense of prior negligent education ministries of country, Shafqat Mehmood said:

“First of all, our syllabus can be compared with that of any other syllabus around the world,” he said. “We have prepared it keeping in mind modern standards (of education),” he added.

Moreover, FME raised high concerns while addressing the question and highlighted that “this is only the thinking of a particular class here,” he said. “So, the standards (education in Pakistan) will rise ” he added.

Furthermore, he added that the government is working to bring in more training reforms for teachers to improve the mode of teaching in the midst of Covid-19. He said distant learning is the only coping strategy to ensure continuity of education nationwide.

“The kids studying in madrassas and those studying in elite schools will have the same educational standards,” he said. “And those standards will be higher, not lower.” He further added.

It is pertinent to be stated here that Shafqat Mehmood had already announced that the single national curriculum will be implemented in all educational institutes across the country from August 2021.
