Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) lawmaker Khurrum Sher Zaman on Monday sad the government will not allow anyone to speak against the country or the founder of Pakistan, Quaid-i-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah.
Addressing a press conference, the PTI leader commended the Sindh Police for lodging a first information report (FIR) against former prime minister Nawaz Sharif’s son-in-law Capt (retd) Safdar at 6 am today. “Sindh Police have realised that no one is above the law.”
Zaman claimed Safdar was walking on the Quaid’s grave, chanting slogans of “vote ko izzat do” [respect the vote].
Criticising the opposition parties. he said “they have no interest in the country” and added that Rs60 to Rs70 crores were spent on the rally held in Karachi a day before. Zaman also said the Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) rallies proved that they had nothing to do with the people.
“Surprisingly no mention of Sindh was made in yesterday’s rally. While standing on stage, Bilawal did not mention the lack of drinking water in the province or that there is no treatment taking place at hospitals in Sindh,” he added.
“Former president Asif Ali Zardari used to call Nawaz Sharif a national thief,” the PTI lawmaker remarked. “Zardari used to say that if we forgive Nawaz Sharif, God will not forgive us.”
Zaman also condemned the words used by the former premier for the army chief. “The words used by Nawaz Sharif against the army chief are reprehensible,” he said.
Earlier today, Maryam Nawaz shared a video on her Twitter account claiming that the police had forcefully entered her hotel room and arrested her husband.
“Police broke my room door at the hotel I was staying at in Karachi and arrested Capt. Safdar,†she tweeted.
PML-N senior leader and spokesperson for Nawaz Sharif and Maryam Nawaz, Mohammad Zubair, claimed that Sindh Police arrested Safdar Awan under duress.
“All the drama was created to put blame on PPP government,†Zubair claimed. “Sindh Chief Minister [Murad Ali Shah] has confirmed that immense pressure was put on the police.â€
Zubair added that police are scared that they had closed the doors of the police station and not even allowing the lawyers to go in.
