Halifax to close 26 branches in October – full list

Here is a full list of Halifax bank branches closing in October.

However, some campaigners have expressed concern over easy access to in-person banking services for elderly and vulnerable customers, arguing that such amenities are essential. Banking hubs have been set up by Cash Access UK and the Post Office to replace traditional bank branches.

Lloyds Banking Group, which has owned Halifax since 2009 and is now moving all Halifax customers over to Lloyds, says it regularly reviews how people choose to bank. Meanwhile, Halifax is undergoing a major digital change, with customers being moved across to Lloyds’ digital banking services.

Halifax’s digital services are due to end from November 1, meaning customers who still use Halifax’s app or online banking will need to move to Lloyds. The changeover is beginning today (October 5). If customers have accounts with Lloyds, Halifax or Bank of Scotland, they can bank at any of their branches.

Arguments have been made criticising the widespread closure of bank branches in the UK. South Devon MP Caroline Voaden recently said the closure of 6,000 bank and building society branches nationally in the last 10 years had “the biggest impact on the most vulnerable people, the elderly, the disabled, those who can’t use online services”.

Link said it was “satisfied” that people had “good access to cash” at post offices and cash machines. Meanwhile, some residents in the Devon town of Totnes have told the BBC that their independence has been affected by bank branch closures, and that they now have to travel further for in-person banking services.
