‘Harry’s UK trip turned into a nightmare’ as Meghan Markle left ‘humiliated’

Prince Harry’s latest UK visit was reportedly overshadowed by security concerns, accommodation problems and ongoing tensions with the Royal Family, with sources claiming the situation left Meghan Markle deeply upset.

Royals reporter Russell Myers told People that Harry’s trip “turned into a nightmare” after security issues meant Meghan Markle, 44, and their children Archie, 7, and Lilibet, 5, returned to California earlier than they had intended.

A source familiar with the Sussexes told the outlet that Meghan would have felt “humiliated” as she watched Harry and the royal institution clash over arrangements for the visiting family.

Another source said the former Suits actress “is very supportive” of Harry but added there was “a lot of sadness” over how the trip unfolded.

A separate insider claimed Meghan “always lets [Harry] lead” when it comes to handling his relationship with his family.

Harry spent only one week in Britain, where he promoted next year’s Invictus Games, which will be held in Birmingham.

According to reports, the Sussexes were denied taxpayer-funded security and an offer for the couple to stay at a royal residence was withdrawn, leaving Harry travelling alone for much of his visit.

Meghan was also not expected to attend the Invictus Games event alongside Harry.

What other setback did Harry face during his UK trip?

However, she and their children later joined the Duke for a reunion with King Charles III and Queen Camilla at Highgrove House, Page Six reported.

Charles had not seen Archie and Lilibet, who live in California with Harry and Meghan, since they attended Queen Elizabeth II’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations in 2022.

A source told People: “It is better that people don’t know anything about these meetings. They should be allowed to rekindle those family ties.”

Myers said the outcome of Harry’s visit “was further evidence of the fractiousness of Harry’s relationship with the institution”.

A source also claimed that if the security situation had been “resolved, there would be so much more certainty every time” Harry visits the UK.

Alongside the security and accommodation disputes, Harry discovered he had lost his legal battle against a British newspaper publisher while he was in the UK.

The Duke had sued Associated Newspapers, publisher of the Daily Mail, over alleged privacy breaches.

Royal author Simon Vigar told People: “The court case was a massive defeat for Harry.”

Harry later described the ruling as “a complete and obvious whitewash” in a statement.

Did Harry meet Prince William during his visit?

Despite meeting his father, Harry did not meet his estranged brother Prince William during the trip.

According to Page Six, an insider described the state of the brothers’ relationship by saying: “It’s so broken.”

Another source claimed there had been “no movement, especially on William’s side.”

Royal expert Kinsey Schofield told the publication that William understood Charles’ decision to meet Harry “even if he wouldn’t have done it himself”.

Schofield added that William could appreciate “that a father living with cancer wants to see his son and grandchildren”, while still believing that Harry “has not earned his way back into the family’s confidence”.

Harry and Meghan stepped back from royal duties in 2020, after which they criticised aspects of their royal life in their 2021 interview with Oprah Winfrey and their 2022 Netflix documentary series, Harry & Meghan.

The couple has no plans to return to the Royal Family as working members.
