49’ — Goal. Heidenheim make it 2-1!

45’ — The second half kicks off! The referee had to be changed at halftime, as the main ref was apparently suffering from circulation problems.

Halftime: Bayern Munich lead Heidenheim 2-0.

45’ — GOOOOOOOOOOOAL! Serge Gnabry makes it 2-0 just before halftime!

38’ — GOOOOOOOOOAL! Bayern Munich make it 1-0 courtesy of Harry Kane.

Kickoff: We’re underway in Munich!

One hour until kickoff: We have lineups! Thomas Müller captains Bayern Munich in his 700th appearance for the team, in the absence of Manuel Neuer. Leroy Sané fails to make the squad this week due to injury, and is replaced by Serge Gnabry in the lineup. The rest of the lineup is pretty much as expected, with Goretzka and Laimer unfortunately paired up in the middle again. Upamecano returns to the XI in place of Eric Dier.

With Bayern Munich waving the white flag after last week’s loss to Borussia Dortmund, Bundesliga games seem to have lost their value. Sure, there’s the inherent joy of watching your team play (though there’s not much joyful about Thomas Tuchel’s brand of football) but the promise of titles is all but snuffed out.

The reckoning will come on Tuesday, when Bayern Munich travel to London to face Arsenal in the Champions League. That game completely overshadows today’s clash against Heidenheim, with some possibly assuming that the Bavarians will make this game into a practice session ahead of CL play. That might have been a sound suggestion in the past, but this current edition of Bayern Munich cannot afford to think of any game as a “practice” round.

It’s Bayern time.
