Hong Kong was beginning to feel the impact of Super Typhoon Saola when winds reached hurricane force and rain lashed the city.
The government said it will issue the second-highest storm signal number 9 at 6:20 p.m. This will be the first time in three years that such a warning has been issued. Earlier, the city closed the stock market along with schools and grounded most public transportation ahead of the storm’s arrival later Friday.
