A carer who sexually assaulted two vulnerable women, showed them explicit pictures of his ex and bragged about attending orgies has been jailed. Andrei-Ovidiu Miron, 41, abused his position of trust while working at a supported living centre in Norwich, Norfolk.
Norwich Crown Court heard that while both victims were able to live independently, they suffered from mental health and learning difficulties that required assistance from support staff. Miron, from Norwich, initially denied the charges but changed his plea to guilty just before his trial was due to begin. He has now been sentenced to two years and four months in prison. Recorder Peter Guest said: “On two separate occasions from a position of trust you took advantage of these vulnerable women for your own sexual gratification.”
The court heard from prosecutor Andrew Thompson, who detailed how Miron had accompanied a 26-year-old resident on a shopping trip in 2024 as part of his duties.
After exchanging phone numbers, Miron later went into her room, where the pair had sex. The following day, a support leader was alerted after the victim was left “overwhelmed and traumatised” and “struggling to process” what had happened.
The prosecution also outlined a separate, earlier incident involving a 48-year-old resident. The court heard she was left “shaken, very distressed and in floods of tears” after Miron entered her room uninvited. Mr Thompson said once he was inside, the depraved carer showed her semi-naked pictures of his ex-girlfriend, leaned over her, and rubbed his erection against her back while boasting about attending orgies in the local area.
Martin Ivory, mitigating, argued that Miron had not sought employment specifically to target vulnerable people.
He told the court: “Certainly, his behaviour was inappropriate and he understands and accepts that. He was in a position of trust and he let himself down.”
In addition to his jail sentence, Miron was placed on the sex offenders register for 10 years.
He has also been indefinitely barred from working with children and vulnerable adults, and was hit with a lifetime Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO).
