Horror as train ‘hits vehicle’ in UK town

A major emergency response is under way after reports that a train has hit a vehicle in Lancashire. Emergency services rushed to the scene in the Burscough area of West Lancashire this afternoon, where a Northern train came to a halt near Martin Lane.

Images from the scene show several ambulances and a fire engine, while what appears to be a badly damaged vehicle can be seen close to the train. Passengers are reported to be waiting on board to be safely evacuated by emergency services, with one person on the train saying all passengers were okay. There has not yet been official confirmation of any injuries or casualties.

Northern has confirmed that all lines between Wigan Wallgate and Southport are blocked while emergency services deal with the incident
