HP is collaborating with Google to manufacture Chromebooks in India. Under the partnership, the Chromebook devices will be manufactured at the Flex Facility near Chennai, where HP has been producing a range of laptops and desktops since August 2020.
Production of HP Chromebooks will begin from October 2, 2023 and will cater to the demand for affordable PCs in India, primarily from the education sector.
Equipped with ChromeOS, these devices have built-in accessibility and security features to deepen classroom connections and keep user information secure, the company said in a statement.
The partnership aims to drive HP and Google’s joint vision of supporting the digital education ecosystem in India and helping students improve their learning. The collaboration aims to provide affordable, secure and high-quality computing devices to educational authorities, schools and institutions.

“Manufacturing Chromebook laptops in India will enable Indian students to easily access affordable PCs. By further expanding our manufacturing operations, we continue to support the government’s Make in India initiative,” said Vickram Bedi, Senior Director, Personal Systems, HP India.
“We hope this collaboration will help accelerate technology adoption in more schools so that every student and educator has access to the tools and skills to achieve their personal potential,” said Bani Dhawan, Director of Education – South Asia, Google.
HP has been expanding its manufacturing operations in India since 2020. Currently, the company manufactures a wide range of laptops in India, including HP EliteBooks, HP ProBooks, and HP G8. The company has also expanded its portfolio of locally manufactured commercial desktops by adding several models of mini tower desktops (MT), mini desktops (DM), small form factor desktops (SFF) and a range of all-in-one PCs. in one.
