India is behind the curve when it comes to women in the workforce

In many parts of the Indian economy, there is a shortage of jobs. Many jobs disappeared during the pandemic and never came back. Work in agriculture, long India’s biggest employer, has disappeared in recent decades as farms have become more mechanized. Other sectors, especially manufacturing, failed to compensate.
