Indian digital rupee transactions remain below target: source

MUMBAI, Sept 7 (Reuters) – Transactions in the Indian digital rupee are averaging close to 18,000 a day, a source directly familiar with the matter said on Thursday, well below the target of reaching a million daily transactions until the end of the year.

The source did not want to be identified because he is not authorized to speak to the media.

Last year, the central bank started pilot programs to use the erupiah rupee in retail and wholesale markets as an alternative to cash.

The RBI did not immediately reply to the Reuters email.
