Inland storms Wednesday; Heat alerts possible this weekend

FORT MYERS, Fla. —

Stay hydrated today with feels like temperatures in the triple digits again this afternoon. We don’t quite meet the criteria for heat alerts today, though high humidity may trigger alerts this weekend.

Your Gulf Coast Weather Most Accurate Forecast has another round of afternoon showers and thunderstorms on tap today for the Gulf Coast. Similar to Tuesday, storms will favor inland communities east of I-75 for the late afternoon and evening.

We’re in store for moderate fire danger again today so be cautious of anything that could spark a brush fire. Even though high humidity and calm winds are helping to limit the fire danger, we still have dry vegetation. We’ve made big improvements over the last month but several communities are still facing severe to extreme drought.

The Atlantic remains quit, with no development expected over the next seven days. Dense plumes of Saharan dust are helping to suppress activity across the Atlantic basin.
