Inside ‘Gomora’s’ besties Ntokozo and Teddy’s staircase to fame

Rising stars, Sicelo Buthelezi and Ntobeko Shishi, who play the roles of Teddy and Ntokozo respectively discuss their roles on Gomora, and starring alongside Mzansi’s talented stars.

The actors opened up to Sowetan about the day they got calls from Gomora and how the roles changed their lives forever.

‘GOMORA’S’ SICELO BUTHELEZI AS TEDDY

The talented duo has captivated audiences since the inception one of the award-winning Mzansi Magic telenovela.

Buthelezi tells the publication that he still recalls the day he got a call in January last year from the show telling him that he got the part.

“I got a call, I don’t know from who specifically, but they said I got the role.”

“And I was with a friend of mine and when I got that call he was the first person to be like, ‘Your life is about to change.”

He plays the role of a troubled learner, Sibusiso “Teddy” Zondo, who’s got learning challenges due to foetal alcohol syndrome.

The 22-year-old tells the publication that Teddy is the most fun person to play, because there are no limits to him.

‘GOMORA’S’ NTOBEKO SHISHI AS NTOKOZO

Actor and TV personality, Ntobeko Shishi got his big break on screen in the SABC 2’s drama series, Signal High and shortly became a presenter on SABC 2’s youth show, Hectic Nine-9.

He auditioned for the role of Ntokozo Dlamini at the beginning of last year and says he didn’t expect to get it.

“It took my career to a completely different height, and I wasn’t expecting that. When I was auditioning for it I just thought, ‘Okay, this is a drama, nothing hectic.”

“When we were doing our first read-through I walked in and saw familiar faces that I would see on screen growing up, which was hectic.”

“And then the first episode aired and it went viral, and it just carried on going viral.”

He tells the publication that his character has gone through what a lot of people have gone through in their lives, which is pursuing a home.
