As Malaysia and Vietnam celebrate 50 years of diplomatic relations this year, both countries remain assured of each other’s commitment to strengthen their Strategic Partnership and continue to strive for peace and prosperity in the region and the world.
In a joint press release, Malaysian Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Zambry Abdul Kadir and his Vietnamese counterpart Bui Thanh Son said that despite the challenges they faced during the years of relationship-building, Malaysia and Vietnam continue to focus on opportunities to bring bilateral and regional relations closer. .
“The shared focus of interests has contributed to the ASEAN Community being a major driving force in the broader regional architecture.
“As we celebrate this auspicious occasion, we further reaffirm our commitment to deepen political and economic cooperation. To this end, we remain committed to carrying out the 2021-2025 Action Plan under the Malaysia-Vietnam Strategic Partnership,” the joint statement said.
Issued in conjunction with the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Malaysia and Vietnam, the statement said that both foreign ministers will also strive to promote and carry out regular high-level engagements and strengthen bilateral cooperation mechanisms.
“In line with this commitment, we hope to exchange high-level visits this year, as well as the convening of the Joint Commission for Economic, Scientific and Technological Cooperation (JCM) and the Joint Committee on Trade (JTC).
“We will continue our cooperative efforts in multilateral forums in response to global challenges. We highly value the flourishing people-to-people engagements between Malaysia and Vietnam and strongly believe in the mutual benefits that these engagements bring,” the statement said.
Malaysia forged diplomatic ties with the current Vietnamese state on March 30, 1973.
