Intellasia East Asia News – Bali to expedite stunting reduction to 6.15pct by 2024

Bali’s deputy Governor Tjok Oka Artha Ardhana Sukawati instructed the province’s Stunting Reduction Acceleration Team (TPPS) to accelerate steps to reduce stunting to 6.15 percent by 2024.

“This swift action is needed to ensure the achievement of the stunting rate reduction target at 6.15 percent in 2024. The stunting prevalence in Bali in 2021 is recorded at 10.9 percent,” the deputy governor, popularly known as Cok Ace, stated here, Thursday.

According to the Indonesian Nutrition Status Study (SSGI) data, Bali’s stunting rate is actually below the national average at 14 percent.

However, Cok Ace said, there are significant differences in the rate between districts and cities in Bali.

“The highest prevalence of stunting in Bali is in Karangasem District, at 22.9 percent, and the lowest is in Gianyar District, at 5.1 percent,” he stated.

Cok Ace expressed optimism that all stakeholders would have the commitment to put in stunting reduction efforts as one of the main priorities in development at the central to village level.

“Strong commitment is important to ensure that all actors are present and exert their best efforts in accelerating stunting reduction in Bali,” he remarked.

Meanwhile, Head of Bali’s Population and Family Planning Board (BKKBN) representative Ni Luh Gede Sukardiasih stated that cases of stunting in the province were mostly caused by the people’s lack of understanding on good parenting.

Sukardiasih said the board had started to use social media for disseminating information and education on stunting.

“Economy is not the main factor behind stunting cases in Bali but it is also related to the availability of facilities, such as clean water, which I think has been fulfilled,” Sukardiasih stated while adding that BKKBN Bali has targeted to disseminate information on stunting reduction to female adolescents.
