Intellasia East Asia News – HK officials pay respects to former president Jiang

Chief Executive John Lee Ka-chiu, along with other officials, observed three minutes of mourning in silence at the Central government Offices to express deep condolences to the late Chinese president Jiang Zemin.

John Lee and the principal officials, members of the Executive Council, and directorate officers of bureaux and departments watched the live broadcast of the memorial service for Jiang this morning and paid tribute to the ex-president.

All government bureaux and departments also made arrangements for their staff to observe a three-minute mourning in silence during the memorial service. government vessels conducted three minutes of sounding their horns during the mourning in silence.

In addition, the 18 district offices arranged to let the public watch the live broadcast of the memorial service.

National and regional flags displayed at all government departments, including offices outside Hong Kong, are flown at half-staff.

Government officials will not attend any public entertainment activities today. All entertainment and celebration activities organised or funded by the government on Tuesday have been postponed or cancelled.

The Judiciary also held a live broadcast of the memorial service for Jiang. The Chief Justice of the Court of Final Appeal Andrew Cheung Kui-nung, three court leaders, three permanent judges of the Court of Final Appeal, several judges of the High Court, as well as Judiciary staff observed three minutes of mourning in silence during the service.
