Intellasia East Asia News – Japan pledges donation of more COVID-19 vaccines to Taiwan

The Japanese government on Tuesday pledged to donate another 300,000 COVID-19 vaccines to Taiwan, which would bring the total doses it has donated to date to 4.2 million.

The vaccine jabs are scheduled to be delivered on Wednesday, said Japanese Foreign minister Toshimitsu Motegi at a press event.

In response, Taiwan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) thanked Tokyo for its latest donation pledge.

Japan has donated more COVID-19 vaccine doses to Taiwan than any other country. All of the vaccines it has sent to Taiwan to date have been AstraZeneca brand vaccines.

It first donated 1.24 million AZ vaccine doses to Taiwan on June 4, followed by 1.13 million doses on July 8, 970,000 doses on July 15, 64,000 doses on September 7, and 500,000 doses on September 14.
