The Japanese government said on June 27 that it has nothing to report regarding unidentified flying objects, after a research institute in the city of Fukushima released images it claimed were UFOs.
“Regarding unidentifiable objects in the air, we have received a report that there are no special cases to announce,” deputy Chief Cabinet Secretary Yoshihiko Isozaki stated in answer to a question about the images released by the International UFO Lab on June 25.
In September 2020, then Defense minister Taro Kono issued the first-ever order to Japan’s Self-Defense Forces to take photos and analyse information on any UFOs or other unidentifiable objects spotted by their personnel. However, the government has apparently received no such reports.
Isozaki emphasized that the government will continue to watch out for UFOs, saying, “We intend to respond based on instructions from the defense minister.”
