Intellasia East Asia News – The rallying cry of ‘once enemies, now friends’ reflects the strengths of the Malaysian government, says Saifuddin

Pakatan Harapan Secretary General Saifuddin Nasution Ismail said on Sunday Malaysia’s unity government has “not looked back” since it was formed six months ago.

He described it as a “strong, stable and functional government”, as reflected in the call for “dulu lawan, sekarang kawan” (formerly enemies, now friends) heard in several speeches during the unity government convention on Sunday.

“I was attracted by what my friend Datuk Seri, Dr. Wee Ka Siong, said in his speech,” said Datuk Seri Saifuddin, referring to the slogan used by the Malaysian Chinese Association president at the convention.

“Former enemies, now friends. Before this (at the time of Reformasi) they were ‘former friends, now enemies’. At that time we had our own slogan of ‘lawan tetap lawan’ (the fight must go on). We have to adjust that now,” he said.

“What we want to get back from this convention is the confidence that this is a strong, stable and functional government,” he said.

He said that the government has always defended the fundamentals of the Federal Constitution.
