Iowa National Guard unit that assisted with the recovery of entitlement to deploy to the Middle East

A unit of the Iowa National Guard will deploy to the Middle East this fall.

The 831st Engineer Vertical Construction Company (EVCC) recently received orders for Operation Spartan Shield at US Central Command (CENTCOM), which is a region spanning 27 countries including Kuwait, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates United and others.

The unit will deploy from Middletown, Iowa, with approximately 150 soldiers. The soldiers’ primary mission is to perform missions to improve critical infrastructure and participate in various construction projects throughout the region.

The 831st EVCC unit most recently assisted the county and state emergency management departments in Cedar Rapids after entitlement in 2020.

The last time the unit was activated in federal service was in 2005 in support of the global war on terror.

The farewell ceremony will be announced at a later date.
