Israel Launches Airstrikes On Gaza, Breaking Cease-Fire With Hamas

The Israeli military confirmed it attacked the Gaza Strip on Wednesday, breaking the cease-fire that had ended 11 days of violence last month that killed over 250 people, most of whom were Palestinians.

In a statement to Reuters and Al Jazeera, the Israel Defense Forces said it had attacked Hamas’ armed compounds in Gaza in response to the reported launching of incendiary balloons from the territory.

The attack comes weeks after Israeli airstrikes destroyed Gaza in May, killing dozens of children, destroying homes and institutions, and displacing families. It also follows Israel’s new ultranationalist government permitting a far-right march in occupied East Jerusalem ― where settlers are currently attempting to force Palestinians out of their homes.
