‘It’s one of those days where everything works in your opponent’s favor and you have no idea’: PBKS coach Wasim Jaffer

Jaffer said his plan to chase failed and praised the LSG hitter for his brilliant execution of hits.

“You can say that our plan failed, but this is the tendency of all ipl teams who pitch first after winning the toss. When the opposition score 257, chasing will always be difficult. We could have played better,” Jaffer said during the post-game conference.

“The way they (LSG hitters) started on the power play and didn’t stop at all. Ayush Badoni, Marcus Stonis, Nicholas Pooran. When someone plays like that it becomes very difficult. They didn’t lose momentum after the power play. It was a bad day for our bowling,” she added.

Jaffer believes that bowling on the longer side of the boundary and using variations with the ball might have resulted in a different goal.

“We could have used a different plan. He pitched in the bigger area, he used some slower balls, but we didn’t do that. But we have to give credit to their hitters, they hit brilliantly. It’s one of those days when everything works in your opponent’s favor and you have no idea,” he said.

Jaffer praised the team’s young hitters, saying they did a brilliant job. He praised the home team for putting up a strong fight as he chased and reached the 200-run mark.

“Atharva Taide, who just played his third or fourth match, as Jitesh Sharma played. If we could have restricted the good luck now hitters at 220-230, the game could be different, but this is all hindsight,” he said.
