Japanese envoy calls on army chief to bid adieu | The Express Tribune

Japan’s Ambassador to Pakistan Kuninori Matsuda on Friday paid a farewell visit to Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Qamar Javed Bajwa at the General Headquarters (GHQ) in Rawalpindi, a statement from the Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR) said.

During the meeting, it added, matters of mutual interest, bilateral cooperation in various fields, overall regional situation and peace and stability in Afghanistan were discussed.

The COAS thanked the ambassador for his services and appreciated his contributions for fostering strong ties between the two countries and support towards defence and security cooperation and stance on the Afghan situation.

The ISPR said that the visiting dignitary appreciated Pakistan’s role in the Afghan situation including successful evacuation operations and pledged to keep working for better relations between the two countries.

Earlier this month, General Qamar discussed the situation in Afghanistan and its bearing on regional peace and stability with Commander Royal Saudi Naval Forces Vice Admiral Fahad bin Abdullah Al-Ghufaili.

The Saudi naval commander called upon the army chief at GHQ during which matters of mutual interest, regional security situation and cooperation in military and maritime domains were discussed.

“[The] COAS reiterated that both countries share the great history of cordial relations and deep-rooted spirit of brotherhood, which has transformed into an enduring partnership,” the ISPR stated.

The ISPR added that the visiting dignitary appreciated Pakistan’s role in the Afghan situation, especially the assistance in the successful evacuation operations and pledged to continue working with Pakistan for regional peace.
