Jose Riveiro reacts to victory against Royal AM

Orlando Pirates head coach Jose Riveiro gave credit to his side’s “incredible” defence after the Buccaneers beat Royal AM 1-0 on Wednesday night at the Moses Mabhida Stadium.

Deon Hotto‘s solitary strike secured Orlando Pirates a second victory out of four DStv Premiership matches played this season.

Riveiro, who before the game was concerned about Bucs’ lack of goals, hailed his defence for their work at the back.

“Very, very good. 60 minutes from us, plenty of very, many positive things,” Riveiro told SuperSport after the game.

“Very professional performance here tonight. And I like our defensive work today was incredible. Not happy with the way that we deal in the moment when we recover the ball, we should spend more time in the second half, keeping the possession and not suffer much.

But even though we were defending a bit lower than what we want, I don’t remember any single clear chance of a very good team like Royal AM.

“So credit for our team, for our coaching staff, for our players, for everyone, because today it was beautiful to see the guys fighting in this way.”

Riveiro also spoke about the stiff competition among the players in his team.

“We have a fantastic competition inside the squad. We’re very committed to our objectives of the season and today was proof of that,” he added.

“Yes, you can see the guys who are coming from the bench, if it’s 40 minutes, ten minutes they put in everything they have, that’s the way the team can achieve good things in the future.”
