Jupiter’s wind speeds measured by exoplanet-hunting instrument

In a first-of-its-kind examine, scientists have used an instrument designed to detect and examine planets past our photo voltaic system, or exoplanets, to measure the wind speeds on Jupiter, the biggest planet in our neighborhood. 

ESPRESSO instrument

The ESPRESSO instrument is mounted on the Very Massive Telescope (VLT) of the European Southern Observatory (ESO). It was initially developed to seek out and analyze distant worlds by measuring the tiny adjustments in starlight brought on by their presence.

The researchers from the Institute of Astrophysics and House Sciences (IA) on the College of Sciences of the College of Lisbon (Portugal) (Ciências ULisboa) utilized a method known as Doppler velocimetry to the daylight mirrored by the clouds in Jupiter’s ambiance.
