JUST IN: Two more arrested for MURDER of Mayor Moses Maluleke

Two additional suspects will join the list of suspects accused of gunning down Collins Chabane Local Municipality Mayor Moses Maluleke.


An additional two suspects were arrested for the brutal murder of Maluleke and the shooting of his 18-year-old son.

The police team assembled to probe the murder of the Collins Chabane mayor and attempted murder of his son found the two suspects on Friday. The two additional suspects are aged 46 and 47,

“One of the suspects was arrested in Thohoyandou and the other in Saselamani.”

The two are to appear in the Malamulele Magistrate’s Court on Monday. They face charges of conspiracy to commit murder, murder, attempted murder and possession of illegal firearm and ammunition.

Limpopo provincial police commissioner Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe commended the team for the sterling investigations. She has thanked the community members for continuously assisting the police in the fight against crime.


The recently arrested suspects will join Shumani Nemadodzi, 47, and Avhatakali Mulaudzi, 42. The two had appeared before the Malamulele Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday.

But they decided to abandon their bail applications during their appearance, said Limpopo National Prosecuting Authority spokesperson Mashudu Malabi-Dzhangi.

“The matter is adjourned to 19 September for further investigations.”

Three people were initially arrested for the murder of Maluleke. The third suspect was however released as he could not be positively linked to the murder.

Nemadodzi and Mulaudzi also face charges of murder, attempted murder, robbery with aggravating circumstances and possession of an unlicenced firearm and ammunition..


Maluleke was in his home at Shikundu village on Thursday, 21 July 2022. The mayor and his 18-year-old son were accosted by an armed gang which entered their home.

The intruders demanded money from Maluleke. But the mayor and his son did not comply with the armed suspects’ instructions, said police spokesperson Colonel Athlenda Mathe.

This refusal prompted the armed men to fire shots at Maluleke and his son.

“The mayor succumbed to his injuries on the scene and his son survived.”

Maluleke was laid to rest on 2 August.
