Kamala Harris criticizes Ron DeSantis for his recent statement on Ukraine

Harris, in an interview with Stephen Colbert on Wednesday, gave him two cents in the Republican Governor’s recent statement to Tucker Carlson after he referred to the war as a “territorial dispute” after weeks of dodging questions about US support for Ukraine.

Colbert asked Harris what he thinks of DeSantis and his stance that it is not in the United States’ best interest to offer aid to the Ukrainians “against an encroaching power” in Russia.

“When you have had the experience of knowing and understanding the importance, again, of international rules and norms and the importance of the United States of America being firm and clear about the importance of sovereignty and territorial integrity, the importance of stand your ground against any nation that would try to take another nation by force,” Harris told Colbert.

“If you really understand the issues, you probably wouldn’t make statements like that.”

DeSantis’s statement sparked a backlash from several Republicans, including the senator. marco rubio (R-Fla.), Sen. lindsey graham (RS.C.) and Sen. john cornyn (R-Texas) – the latter of whom called the war an “absolutely important” issue.

“I mean, Governor DeSantis is a veteran. He is a smart guy. I think he has been a very good governor and I don’t understand him saying that Ukraine is not important to the United States.”
