The clip was published by an independent digital platform and showed a Hindu couple getting married in a mosque in the city of Alappuzha in Kerala. Meanwhile, the much talked about movie The Kerala Story was released in theaters on Friday. Earlier, the movie trailer caused havoc and the movie was called anti-religious. A petition was filed to ban the film and remove the trailer from all platforms. On Thursday, the Supreme Court refused to consider for the third time a petition challenging the CBFC certification given to The Kerala Story, saying that courts must be very careful when suspending the exhibition of films.
The court noted that the producers have invested money in the film and the actors have put in their work, and it is up to the market to decide if the film falls short. The high court refused to consider the guilty plea saying it is the “worst kind of hate speech” and “audiovisual propaganda”. The Madras high court on Thursday also dismissed a petition against the release of the controversial film. The Madras HC also criticized the petitioner for approaching it at the last moment, seeking a ban on the release of ‘The Kerala Story’.
The petitioners have said that the film degrades the entire community and will endanger the lives and livelihoods of Muslims. Several shows across the state were canceled amid protests against the film for allegedly propagating a false narrative of Islamic conversion.
