Leaker reveals specs and launch pricing for next ASUS ROG Ally gaming handheld

Somewhat spoiling ASUS’ plans in the process, @MysteryLupin implies that the ROG Ally X will be available in one configuration, unlike the existing ROG Ally (curr. $669 on Amazon). As had previously been suggested, the ROG Ally X will see the return of the Ryzen Z1 platform that powers the Lenovo Legion Go too, not just the ROG Ally. Specifically, @MysteryLupin asserts that the ROG Ally X will only feature the Ryzen Z1 Extreme, effectively a customised Ryzen 7 7840U.

Arguably, this should come as no surprise, given that ASUS has already positioned the ROG Ally X as a beefed-up version of its current gaming handheld. In a similar vein, @MysteryLupin reports that the ROG Ally X will ship with a 1 TB SSD, twice the capacity of either existing ROG Ally. With that being said, the device is expected to retain the ROG Ally’s existing 7-inch display, which outputs at 1080p and 120 Hz.

Moreover, @MysteryLupin states that the ROG Ally X will be limited to a black finish. Presumably to help distinguish the ROG Ally X from the ROG Ally, the colour choice could also make the ROG Ally X look like the MSI Claw as a result. Reportedly, ASUS is targeting a $799 launch price for the ROG Ally X, which would make it $100 more expensive than the ROG Ally’s launch price. Based on what ASUS has hinted at so far, the ROG Ally X will feature a larger battery and more RAM to justify the $100 surcharge, among other improvements.
