Learn to achieve success: ‘Don’t wait for opportunities, create them yourself’

Written by Bhadur Singh

Launching Success is an inspirational book written by S Taranjit Singh Chawla, a veteran journalist with more than five decades of experience in journalism and public life. The book is a follow-up to Winning Happiness, which was highly acclaimed. The author has described the essential factors that influence the human mind to achieve success in life, such as initiative, courage, risk-taking ability, daring, resourcefulness, perseverance, concentration, focus, determination. willpower and determination.

The author talks about SWOT analysis, without mentioning the term, in different chapters. S means weighing the necessary strengths to be successful in any venture you undertake, such as knowledge of the business field, required skills, necessary means and resources, passion to achieve the goal, and killer spirit. W stands for weaknesses, which play an important role in achieving success. While one needs to develop their strengths, at the same time they need to overcome their weaknesses.

The author describes in detail the strengths and weaknesses. He gives the example of the family to illustrate the two. Strong family support (emotional, social, and financial) is a great contributor to ultimate success, but the lack of it is even more detrimental. Or represents opportunities. Before starting any undertaking, one must visualize the opportunities that can be presented by following the goal or objective.

The author says: “Don’t wait for opportunities, create them”. Achievable goals or objectives are very important; Setting unattainable goals or objectives is a recipe for failure and disappointment. Being ambitious is mandatory to succeed, but being too ambitious beyond one’s means, resources, abilities, and reach is fatal. T means threats. Each company has the risks involved, natural or related to the market. One must be prepared to face the risks and threats involved rather than be shocked.

The author talks about fear in detail. According to him, fear is the greatest enemy of any entrepreneur. The fear of failure in any undertaking one wants to undertake is the biggest obstacle to achieving success in life. A person who is afraid of failure can never take a risk. He or she loses the game before even entering the field. He or she remains confined to his or her comfort zone and lacks success throughout his or her life.

Risk taking is the first requirement to achieve success in life; without the ability to take risks, one can be secure but can never think of achieving success in any field.

Success is not final and failure is not fatal; it is the courage to continue that counts. Success is walking from failure to failure. He who is not brave enough to take risks will not achieve anything in life. When you feel like quitting, remember why you started; this will keep you going. The author strongly recommends removing the fear of failure from your mind in order to succeed. One should not be afraid of failure but rather learn from it. It should be taken as a learning experience. One must not repeat the same mistakes that could have led to failure, but must correct them. One must identify the problem areas and then start the business again. Persistence is the key to success.
