Letter: Don’t believe what people say about you

Understanding stigma and self-stigma

Dear Editor:
When do you suppose professionals will stop subscribing to the public idea of ‘stigma’ and start addressing it professionally as prejudice rather than contributing to its use?

The suggestion of ‘self-stigma’ a person believes (don’t believe what people say about you) the prejudice directed at him or her and self-deprecates, indeed occurs. ‘Self-deprecates’ is the accurate, professional reference.
