Liberals want more heads to roll in wake of Somyurek sacking

Victorian Liberal leader Michael O’Brien has scoffed at Premier Daniel Andrews’ claims that he knew nothing of Adem Somyurek’s branch stacking until Sunday’s exposure of the former minister.

Mr O’Brien said that two key allies of Mr Somyurek – Consumer Affairs Minister Marlene Kairouz and Assistant Treasurer Robin Scott – should also be removed from cabinet, or at least stood down, while an investigation by Victoria Police and the Independent Broad-based Anti-corruption Commission takes place.

Neither Mr Scott nor Ms Kairouz have commented on Monday after keeping their cabinet jobs, with the Premier saying both ministers had assured him that they were not guilty of any wrongdoing.

The Liberal leader vowed on Monday morning to use this week’s parliamentary sessions to pursue Mr Andrews and Labor over what he described as the “ugly abuse of power” exposed on Sunday by The Age and Sixty Minutes.
