The SES has told residents in parts of Camden, in Sydney’s south-west, to evacuate their homes and businesses by 9pm today in order to avoid dangerous floods.

The evacuation order is for Sheathers Lane, Kirkham Lane, Menangle Road near Racecourse Road and Poplar Caravan Park.

Once floodwaters reach 8.5 metres at the Camden Weir, the area will become isolated and anyone in the areas mentioned could be stranded without power, water, and other essential services, the SES said.

Rescue missions could become too dangerous for emergency services and so the SES is requesting people follow the evacuation order and move to safer ground.

Pets, essential items, warm clothes, medicines, insurance documents and valuables can be taken with you.

For emergency help in floods and storms, call the NSW State Emergency Service on 132 500.

In life-threatening situations call Triple Zero (000) immediately.
