The Queensland Premier said that her Chief Health Officer Dr Jeanette Young advised her late last night that it was now safe to reopen the border with New South Wales.
“NSW residents are now all welcome back to Queenland, from 1am on February 1 – this is wonderful news,” she said.
The premier is currently touring North Queensland, and said that yesterday she sat down with tourism operators in Cairns.
“Over the Christmas holidays, there’s been an increase of people coming to Cairns, which was wonderful,” she said.
“Of course, we know that a lot of operators are doing it tough, especially with JobKeeper ending at the end of March.”
She said there was a “case to be made” to continue JobKeeper beyond March for the tourism sector, which she said was “hurting”.
