French President Emmanuel Macron and far-right leader Marine Le Pen are facing off Sunday in the French presidential election’s second round vote.
Throughout the campaign Macron’s lead over Le Pen in second-round voting intention polls has been narrower than at any point in the 2017 race. Entering the final week of the election, the incumbent’s numbers have picked up again, as showed by POLITICO’s Poll of polls.
The elections result will shape not only the future of France but also the EU’s. While Macron has defended his pro-European agenda, Marine Le Pen’s program — including drastic changes to the single market — is largely incompatible with the bloc’s rules as they currently stand.
