A Victorian aged care resident has sent an emotional plea to minister Richard Colbeck after spending the last 25 days confined to his room with no visitors.

Graeme Smith said he and his fellow residents of Glendale Aged Care, in Melbourne’s west, are no closer to a roadmap to freedom despite being fully vaccinated.

It comes as the state prepares to further ease restrictions for double-dosed citizens from Friday.

Speaking to Today, the 84-year-old broke down, saying he feels like “a caged animal” after repeated lockdowns.

He went on to issue a direct message to Senator Colbeck, who was listening to his interview.

“Senator, give us some answers,” Mr Smith said in tears.

Senator Colbeck said work is being done to finalise a roadmap for residential aged care.

“There is some work and some answers on the way for you,” he said.

The aged care advisory group of AHPPC (Australian Health Protection Principal Committee) is preparing some work for me right now.”
