Visitation restrictions have been put in place at Toowoomba Hospital, near Brisbane, after it was reported a close contact of a positive COVID-19 case had visited the hospital.

“We are asking people not to visit the Toowoomba Hospital at the moment so we are making sure people are not at risk,” Health Minister Yvette D’Ath said.

She added those visiting patients and loved ones in palliative care and for end of life visits would still be able to visit the hospital.

“You can work through with the local hospital if you are visiting for that reason,” Ms D’Ath said.

Acting Chief Health Officer, Peter Aitken said the close contact had been visiting a relative at the hospital and has since tested negative to COVID 19.

“We’re very happy with that news but as an abundance of caution we’re just making sure at the current stage that we are restricting visitor numbers to make sure that the community, in particular the most vulnerable in hospital, are safe.”
