Air traffic control audio reveals the moments after an Air Canada jet collided with a Port Authority vehicle responding to an issue at LaGuardia Airport, with the controller saying he “messed up.”
In the audio released by LiveATC, one controller says after the crash that “wasn’t good to watch.”
“Yeah, I know I was here,” another controller responds. “I tried to reach out … we were dealing with an emergency earlier. I messed up.”
“Nah, man, you did the best you could,” the other controller says.
Earlier in the audio, a controller is heard telling a vehicle, a fire truck, to stop.
“Truck One, stop,” the controller says.
The fire truck was responding to a separate incident involving a United Airlines flight that had an “odor” on board. In the transcript, a man is heard saying that flight attendants on the back of the plane were “starting to feel ill because of the odor.”
“We will need to go into any available gate at this time,” a woman says.
“Do you have any gates for United? Because United’s declaring an emergency, they want to get out,” a man responds.
