- A massive explosion, fire and collapse at a nursing home in Bristol, Pennsylvania, left at least two people dead as well as several people hurt or missing.
- The incident occurred on Tuesday, Dec. 23, around 2 p.m. when PECO responded to a reported gas odor at the Silver Lake Nursing Home on 905 Tower Road. As PECO crews worked at the building, an explosion occurred in the basement, sparking a large fire.
- According to preliminary reports, a gas leak may have caused the blast which led to a massive response from police and firefighters from multiple counties.
- At least two people were killed in the explosion and fire while several others were either injured or remain missing.
- A safety inspection from the Pennsylvania Department of Health found the nursing home wasn’t in compliance with several requirements of the Life Safety Code.
- There are 174 certified beds in the facility which has about 151 residents daily, according to Medicare.gov. A nurse at the facility told NBC10 there are residents as old as 95 years of age who live at the home.
