As energy prices continue to soar, Brits are looking for cost-effective ways to save money on bills. With colder weather on the way, households across the UK are being urged to try this simple task.
The task is completely safe and free, which saves money on heating. It works by using natural heat from the sun, especially in open-plan rooms with large windows. Instead of letting cold draughts through the house, this hack will keep warm air indoors all night.
This advice comes from Bridge Contract Interiors, contract curtain and blind specialists, a Chippenham-based business with over 10 years of experience in the industry.
Brendan Pocock, Director of the company, explained:“Knowing how to utilise the natural and free heat provided by the sun is a great energy saver. Leaving your curtains open throughout the day allows the sunlight to enter your room and warm your home.
“Fully closing these window coverings as soon as it gets dark will help trap this warm air in your home throughout the cold nights.”
It’s estimated that around 18% of heat loss comes from windows, twice as fast through single glazing compared to double glazing. This task will ensure the heat is absorbed and stays within the room once the curtains are shut.
The Met Office offered similar advice, with their guidance saying that people should close their curtains at dusk to keep the heat inside rooms.
