The 24-yar-old Capetonian is enjoying the year of his life and reaching the final 16 at the US Open represents the best Grand Slam performance of his career to date.

Shapovalov, the seventh-seed, entered the match as the favourite, but Harris was not to be denied, firing 10 aces in winning 6-4, 6-4, 6-4 in a match which lasted two hours and 13 minutes.

While it’s back to the drawing board for Shapovalov, Harris will move on to face 22nd seeded American Reilly Opelka on Monday.

Lloyd Harris entered the tournament ranked 46th in the world, but his heroics at Flushing Meadows to date have seen him move to a new career-high of 35th.

Good luck, Lloyd!
